Since our visit to the battlefield of Hastings, we have been fascinated by the Norman conquest.
So today we travelled to Bayeux to see the famous tapestry, an amazing embroidery, 70 meters long representing the conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy. From his meeting with Harold of Wessex before the death of Edward, king of England to his coronation in Westminter.
I will share a little video of our adventure very soon.
Unfortunately the day wasn't long enough to see the tapestry, visit the cathedral and the pretty town. We will therefore need to come back to Bayeux.
The boys loved it all but there is so much to learn and so much to see, castles, cathedrals, the Domesday Book and the rest.
Personally I'd love to see the Domesday book which is kept in a specially made chest in Kew, London. It records the wealth of England. Indeed William I needed to know how much his people owned in order to tax them.
